The new PoP is its 14th worldwide and third in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to iBASIS, this development is part of a broader plan to expand its IPX infrastructure and capabilities in Asia to meet the growing demand for roaming and cross-border data services.
As data traffic and international connectivity needs increase, operators are seeking more direct routes, greater resilience in network architecture and lower latency.
As latency increasingly influences the quality of the roaming experience, the new PoP enables network operators to deliver a broader range of services while maintaining connectivity and reliability.
“Closer to key markets”
“Establishing a presence in Tokyo brings us closer to key markets and expands inter-Asia paths, ensuring reliable performance for roaming and next-generation services,” said Ajay Joseph, CTO, iBASIS.
“This step aligns with our broader deployment roadmap and will complement our recent expansion in the region with the acquisition of Telstra International ’s wholesale voice, IPX and messaging assets.”*
The PoP will be operational and ready to serve customers in Japan and East Asia from December 2025.
*Pending regulatory approvals
