iLOQ has announced a new partnership agreement with German Bundesliga football club Borussia Mönchengladbach to implement smart locks across its iconic Borussia-Park stadium.

Partnership

The partnership involves large-scale security updates, including the installation of smart locks on every door in the stadium and a whole new access system that allows VIPS to access designated premises through their smartphones.

As part of the agreement, iLOQ’s brand will be featured prominently in the stadium, media areas and across the club’s digital platforms, reaching millions of fans worldwide.

Deploying iLOQ Smart Locks

The company states that its smart locks will be installed throughout the venue.

The locks are battery-free, with the power needed to recognise access rights and open locks generated by the motion of inserting the digital key or from the NFC (Near-Field Communication) induction of the smartphone.

The smart locks in the VIP boxes allow full access via smartphone. Visitors will have the ability to grant and revoke access through iLOQ’s app to ensure that families and friends can enter with ease while maintaining high security.

Access rights will be controlled from a centralised programming system, ensuring precise authorisation and giving the right people access to different parts of the stadium as needed, iLOQ adds.

“A dream come true”

Sascha Hilgers, Managing Director, iLOQ Germany said: “I am a lifelong fan of Borussia Mönchengladbach, going to games throughout my childhood.

“Being able to provide this support for the club I love is a dream come true. Football stadiums are enormous, complex structures with thousands of specialised rooms that different people need access to.”

Hilgers concluded: “I’m happy that the facility managers at Borussia-Park no longer have to carry bulky, impractical keychains and that players and staff can get where they need to with ease, allowing them to focus on bringing results on the pitch.”

“Two forward-thinking organisations”

Patrick Herrmann, Sales Manager and former player at Borussia Mönchengladbach commented: “The partnership with iLOQ brings our two forward-thinking organisations together.

“Their contribution to upgrading our stadium facilities will make life easier for everyone at the club and our fans.

“Having iLOQ as a long-term partner will improve our security standards and make our fantastic stadium even better,” he added.

Large venue security

iLOQ says that large venues open to the public, such as sports stadiums, music venues and museums, have high standards for security and ease of access, often requiring large amounts of keys and constant maintenance to keep them up to date.

With iLOQ’s locking systems, these critical security systems become virtually maintenance-free, while also preventing hundreds of kilos of battery waste normally associated with battery-powered smart locks.

With more than 300 patents registered, iLOQ highlights that its technology is uniquely positioned to replace outdated locking systems without introducing new problems, such as:

  • Battery waste
  • Increased maintenance

More than 10 million iLOQ smart locks are in operation across over 55 countries, from football stadiums and protected cathedrals to residential housing and critical infrastructure sites, the company notes.

“Shares our values”

Heikki Hiltunen, President and CEO, iLOQ commented: “We’re thrilled to partner with a club that shares our values of innovation, performance and community.

“This partnership is an important step for iLOQ in the German market and will provide a significant boost to our visibility and reputation with our customers, channel partners and users throughout Europe,” Hiltunen concluded.
